 ACTIVITY PROFESSIONALS OF ONTARIO
STANDARDS OF PRACTICE
DEVELOPED IN 2002 BY THE STANDARDS TASK FORCE

This document is property of Activity Professionals of Ontario (APO).

INTRODUCTION

The Activity Professionals of Ontario Standards of Practice were developed to provide a minimum Standard for Long-Term Care Facilities and related Facilities which provide a Recreation/leisure Service to Geriatric Clients and/or clients who benefit from Recreation Leisure Service in senior setting and whose facilities hire persons to provide these services.

The Activity Professionals of Ontario believes that the Standards are the minimum mandatory requirement for those working as Managers, Directors or Supervisors of the Recreation/Program Departments in Ontario Long Term Care Facilities. We strongly recommend that other facilities outside of the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care should adopt these minimum standards when providing leadership in their respective Recreation/Leisure Service to the Geriatric client.

The Activity Professionals of Ontario will endorse the Enclosed Standards of Practice as the minimum guideline when facilities are seeking qualifications for their Managers of Leisure Programs. In doing so it recognizes that all documentation related to the provision of Recreation/leisure interventions must be signed and dated in ink by the person providing the interventions.
