Mentor of the Year 2007

Susan Hallam of Quinte Gardens Retirement Centre in Bellville, Ontario, has been named the 2007 APO Mentor of the Year. She was nominated by Debbie Ollerhead, Activity Coordinator.

On behalf of Activity Professionals of Ontario, it give us great pleasure to congratulate Susan Hallam of Quinte Gardens Retirement Centre in Bellville, on being the successful recipient of this year's Mentor of the Year Award.

Susan Hallam gives 100 percent plus to her career and her residents. Her dedication to creating a homelike atmosphere is apparent in her involvement with the staff and the residents alike. Her friendly manner and genuine concern ensures a welcoming environment in which to live and work.

As described by her co-workers: she is approachable, sincere, and definitely embraces the "Hands on Approach" to managing the home.

Congratulations to Susan for being recognized for the efforts and enthusiasm you bring each and every day.


Mentor of the Year 2006

Heather Martin from Vision Nursing & Rest Home in Sarnia, Ontario has been named Mentor of the Year by the Activity Professionals of Ontario.This prestigious award is presented to a person of influence who shows support for residents and staff to live out their potential in the long term care home and working environment. Heather’s dedication to both residents and staff stood out among the nominees.

Below is an excerpt of the nomination from Vision: “This is a dynamic lady; a person who knows who she is, a person who believes in sharing information. Generosity to those in need are felt deeply and genuinely. There is equality shown to all persons. She is action-oriented and likes to see the best outcomes but is not afraid to say it like it is and deal with concerns. She rarely allows negativity into her whole approach and has an uncanny ability to see things in perspective. With this approach she is able to bring others into perspective if they are open to her.”
